Speeding to God?

October 12, 2012

So how many of us find ourselves speeding as we drive to the Temple? Is speeding a sin?  What about the 12th article of Faith

  • We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

Are We sustaining the Law when we choose to speed?  A friend of mine when I was younger never used to speed for the most part, because as he explained he had ben taught the bible teaches us to be observant and obedient to mans law so far as they didn’t interfere with Gods laws. the whole render unto Ceasar and render unto God concept. So are we rendering to God when we chose to speed? Are we setting a good example for our children and others when we speed? Does it really matter in the scope of things, because it is a small issue? I dont’ claim to know  the answer, but I do think this is an interesting question, and we should think about in our own personal lives.

Wrong is wrong

I just dont’ understand people sometimes. With all the politics on the rise as we close in on NOv. i am amazed at some of the things normal sane people will say at election time. I was Listening to someone complain about a President using executive orders to circumvent Congress, but when you ask him about another President who did it, well that was okay because he liked that President, or he favoured that policy. No Wrong is wrong, If it is wrong for one president to do it then it should be wrong for all presidents to doit. I remember in GW’s first term there was talk about passing some legislation that would give the president some new and ro expanded power, and the first thought I had was  that is great if all future Presidents are some one you like but what happens should you lose the white house? thankfully it never passed, but still the short sightedness and narrow-mindedness of our political leaders. last night at church we where talking about another issue, and some oe said well he is president so we should bend the rules for him, and I am think what? No no the President is sworn in to protect and defend the constitution, not to bend the rules because he is president.

Another argument I love to hear is well out enemies are doing it. Well I was raised and I am trying to raise my daughters that it doesn’t matter what others are doing we need to choice the right, and do what is right.” do as I say not as I do” will not give you a very strong moral or ethic base, and if you end up just like your enemy, who has won?

Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and
if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into

I am just about ready to chuck my affiliation with organized politic in general. As both sides are spending too much time talk ideology, and not enough time rolling up their sleeves and fixing the problem. The fact is that it is going to hurt to fix the problems we have there is no easy way to do it and compromise from both sides are going to be need, but neither party is willing to say, man this suck, but we have to do what we have to do.

One finial note, and I will mention a name Mr. Obama if some thing is wrong, even if it is legal you shouldn’t do it. What kind of message are you sending to the youth of the world when you say super PAC are wrong, but yet you promote and use one, just because it is legal. Be a man and stick to your values
